1.
A penny for your thoughts, and a penny for another smile A hundred dollars later, we were lost and we walked for miles So we walked in circles, such a familiar place But our thoughts became hurtful, and the smile faded from your face There’s a storm beneath the beauty, you can feel And you wanted to see what the wind and the rain reveal Delirious shine, beating down, but the sun never lies It doesn’t show mercy, it doesn’t care if it makes you blind And when we’ve stripped away everything That we try so hard to conceal Are we gonna hate what we see, what the wind and rain reveal All that you love and all you believe, the storm will sweep it away Until all that remains is just you and me Beneath the storm there is beauty you can feel And you wanted to see what the wind and the rain reveal
2.
The sensation that you’re flying But still afraid to leave it all behind Every truth and every lie Desperation to keep trying And what you’d pay to feel it one more time With nothing left to hide Is your salvation worth the blood it’s written in If our destinations are the same No matter where we’ve been The sensation that you’re falling There’s no forgiveness on that cold hard ground When you look down The temptation that keeps calling To try to buy some time with everything you know now Set free and heaven bound
3.
On the Table 03:16
Just south of the county line, I swerved over the yellow line Didn’t see the one-way sign, we were having such a good time I think it did some damage, but nothing I can’t manage Parked it in a tow-away zone but I made it home With the flashers on Found your keys on the table, I’ll explain as soon as I’m able Just over the fault line, I crossed over the red line Couldn’t turn around this time, we were having such a good time Left your keys on the table, I’ll explain as soon as I’m able Shattered glass and twisted steel can’t feel Time will pass and skin and bones will heal You didn’t count on what It really cost How to learn to live without something that you lost Left it all on the table, I’ll give you a call some day when I’m able To explain
4.
She hit the road, I hit the ground She lashed out at anything that wasn’t tied down She hit the town, and it hit back Hard as a rock, quick as a heart attack She hit the bottom, and punched through I cleaned it up, like I always do There’s something wrong with this picture But I was sure that I could fix her A tear down, you say, and start over Who do you think you are you don’t even know her, like I do She ran for hours, seemed like days She chased dreams, I chased demons away There’s something wrong with this picture But I think I can fix her She ran harder than I could She ran farther away, from where I stood There’s something wrong with this picture I wasn’t sure if I could fix her A tear down you say, and start over Who do you think you are you don’t even know her, like I do There’s something wrong with this picture And I can’t fix her
5.
Allison Says 03:00
Allison says she didn’t get enough sleep, and it’s beginning to show Now she’s standing in the middle of the street Wondering where the hell did everybody go The cops come around a few times a week, and everybody knows That Allison’s had too much to drink She’s screaming where the hell did everybody go Allison’s free when she has all she needs But when she starts running low She gets sick and gets tired of these friends she’s acquired And says it’s time for everybody to go She walks down the road in her bare feet and it’s beginning to snow Remembering back when she had so many friends Now where the hell did everybody go It’s not like she wants it to be this way, It’s just that she don’t know how To live with herself and please everyone else But there’s nothing she can do about it, right now
6.
Stage Fright 03:20
My time came around, but I wasn’t ready The voice I knew so well was so unsteady If nothing came out when I opened my mouth, well it would undo me My hands were shaking I just knew everyone could see through me Stage fright Hope to get it right this time May never have this chance again I let myself down again, and it wasn’t softly Didn’t treat myself like a friend, and just what it taught me If there’s ever someone to blame, then put it all on me I don’t want more of the same, but that may be beyond me Stage fright Hope to get it right this time May never have this chance again Stage fright Let me get it right May never have this chance again Can’t run and hide cause it surrounds me Overcome with the fear that moves throughout me But it’s how I feel so let’s just keep this about me If I think its real then there’s no reason to doubt me My time came around, but I wasn’t ready My hands were shaking and I knew everyone could see through me
7.
Blind Spot 03:43
It’s getting crazy out there, something’s obviously wrong You still have a hope and a prayer, but nothing you can count on It’s getting crazy out there, didn’t think it would happen to you Sometimes it doesn’t seem fair, and it blindsided you So what do you say to someone with a blind spot for the truth This conversation is done, and I hope you get well soon Some people just don’t care, or just want to be left alone You still have a hope and a prayer, but no one you can count on Some people can’t understand, someone you thought you knew Someone you thought was a friend, and they blindsided you So what do you say to someone, with a blind spot for the truth This conversation is done, and I hope you get well soon Now you lie, where you fell They set you up in time for their hard sell It ain’t right, it’s not fair, you’ve got your pride, but you don’t care It’s getting crazy out there, didn’t think it would happen to you Sometimes it doesn’t seem fair, and it blindsided you So what do you say to someone, with a blind spot for the truth This conversation is done, and I hope you get well soon
8.
I heard you lost your grip, when you let it slip into the water Without explaining why, I saw you take a dive into the water And you imagined it was me, holding you down in the deep The foaming and the brine swirling in your mind and on the water Waves wash over your head and offer you a bed on the water And you imagined it was me, holding you down in the deep A perfect place to hide, you just have to slide beneath the water Drowning in yourself, you dream you’re someone else beneath the water I covered you so you could sleep, but when you woke it wasn’t me I heard you lost your grip, silently you slipped into the water
9.
A fair weather companion who rode on your back Was quick to point out all the graces you lack Was nowhere to be found, when the lifeline went slack Left drifting alone many miles from dry land The search party came but they had their demands All that you own, just to untie your hands To hate like a man or cry like a baby Are your options my friend, but you thought just maybe This time would be different, this time wouldn’t be so cruel And those so-called friends, some pretend to be lovers And each one you said was not like the others Took what you had, left you huddled under the covers And all those intentions that fell through the cracks At least you can swim or float on your back Find your way back to shore, before the blue fades to black A fair weather companion who rode on your back Was quick to point out all the graces you lack Was nowhere to be found, when the lifeline went slack To hate like a man or cry like a baby Are your options my friend, but you thought just maybe This time would be different, this time wouldn’t be so cruel To fight when you can or pretend that you’re crazy Are the choices at hand but this time just maybe This time will be different, this time you won’t feel Like you’re being used
10.
I figured the odds at a million to one But all of my chances have diminished to none A glimmer of hope, is better than none I thought it was mine, a million to one I reached too high, I thought that I won I was so sure that I would be the one A glimmer of hope, is better than none I thought it was mine, a million to one The person you knew, I tried to outrun And I hope you see me now for who I’ve become A glimmer of hope, is better than none I thought it was mine, a million to one A glimmer of hope, till it all came undone I thought it was mine, a million to one
11.
I thought we had a safe word, can’t you see the line’s blurred Looking back with your twenty-sixty vision It was just an embrace, somewhere in a dream state That left you in a compromised position Get your house in order now, make everybody proud So no one else gets hurt when all the cards start falling down And reminds me that you don’t want me around I thought we had a safe word, another lesson hard learned Laid down while you created a diversion You forgot the safe word, was the explanation I heard Telling the same story different version  Get your house in order now, make everybody proud So no one else gets hurt when all the cards start falling down And reminds me that you don’t want me around Everybody wants a payback, to compensate for what they lack And tried to force you back into submission You could have missed the train wreck If you waited for a rain check Now you’re faced with an unpopular decision To get your house in order now, or let everybody down And everyone gets hurt no matter how the cards turn out And now nobody else wants you around
12.
OK to Drive 04:01
Somewhere beneath the surface is a diamond in the rough But just when you think you’ve found it, they say you’ve had enough Enough or one too many is a crooked line to walk I’m ok to drive home now but I’m not ok to talk To talk about tomorrow and all that we had planned Once had with so much promise but became an also-ran Ran before they chased you down and made you take that stuff I’m ok to drive home now but never dreamed that it would be this rough Rough around the edges but smooth as it goes down Keeps you warm a little while but never sticks around Around that time you realize that one more’s not enough I’m ok to drive home now but getting there may be tough Tough to be the only one who’s picking up the slack When everything turned out wrong and they want their money back Back before you had one more than what the law allowed I’m ok to drive home, but not ready to right now Now they’re turning up the lights and stacking up the chairs It’s not where I was meant to be but you’ve got to be somewhere Somewhere beneath the surface is that diamond in the rough Waiting for the time when you decide you’ve had enough Enough or one too many is a crooked line to walk I’m ok to drive home now but I’m not ok to talk

about

"The music hearkens back to the best of 1960s folk/pop/rock with shimmering acoustic and tremolo guitar work and sublime vocal harmonies …”

- Jeff Burger, Americana Highways

“Every now and then an album comes along that palpably captures the fragility of beauty and the longing for a spaciousness that can embrace our loneliness, our shared disillusionment, and our shared hopes and dreams.”

- Alan Cackett, Americana Roots

“Season 10 is a little bit of an oxymoron with its angst-ridden words couched in some soaring, melodic acoustic music. However that dissonance is so well balanced you can either ignore it and ride the musical waves, or you can dig in and wallow in it. And if you’re a Smith’s fan, I think These Fine Moments might be what they would have sounded like if they’d gone down the folk route.”

- Shawn Underwood, Twangville

“They don’t stray far from their singer/songwriter roots and know how to pack some emotion into the bytes to give their stuff some real bite.  Right up the acoustic based alley.”

- Chris Spector, Midwest Record
